How should custom software be planned for distributed teams?

Software for distributed teams is not just a set of screens translated into different languages. The system should make decisions, data ownership and work handoffs visible across time zones.

Write down decisions and owners

Who creates, approves, edits and closes a record? Without a role and permission model, security and operations become harder as the team grows.

Design for asynchronous work

The workflow should not depend on people being online at the same moment. Status, history, files, comments and the next action should remain in the system.

Start small but real

A working first release for one team or workflow is easier to measure than a vague project that tries to transform the whole organisation at once.

Practical startChoose the handoff that causes the most delay and turn it into a measurable, recorded workflow.
